Confession Time

Posted by: Kathleen Collins
So the book I'm currently working on was supposed to be out in January. It's not something I'm proud of or happy about, but it couldn't be avoided. Oh, I could have written the book and got it out but it would have been crap and I refused to put out crap.

I've got a million reasons why the book was delayed but what it boils down to is that I had a horrible fall and winter. Amongst everything else, I suffer from clinical depression. When you have a series of months where things pile on each other one after the other, it does not help that particular state of mind. And boy could you tell in my writing. There was no joy in anything I was producing, no heart.

Finally, I made the decision that I needed to take some time off. I hated doing it, but I put my computer away and didn't write a word for almost two months. More things happened during that time period that made me really glad I'd taken the time for my mental well being. And now that I'm back to writing I can tell that taking the break was a good thing, for me and my work.

The reason I share this is simply to say that when you get bogged down in life, in your work, sometimes the best thing you can do is take a break. Take some time off and focus on you.

And what I learned more than anything else, was that my readers are awesome. Not that I didn't know that before, but they have been incredibly supportive and understanding. They have been awesome from the moment I announced the delay and I can't wait to get this book out for them. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.
