FAVORITE MOVIES for VALENTINE'S DAY - by the authors at Here Be Magic

We all have them. Those movies we LOVE HARD no matter what the critics, our kids, or our significant others may think about them. These films touch us, lift us, make us smile or make us cry - and sometimes, all of the above!

You don't have to wait for Valentine's Day to watch a romantic movie. But hey, February 14th IS on a Friday this year, so why not break out the popcorn (and maybe the kleenex), kick back and enjoy?

PS - Be sure to leave a comment and tell us YOUR favorites!
................................

LINDA -"Somewhere in Time - So romantic. So damn sad. Fantastic musical score. And I cry every damn time! It was also the very first VCR tape I ever bought. Cost me $89.95 way back when!"

~ Linda Mooney  lindamooney.com
................................

PG - "One of my all time favorite romantic movies--not a romance, exactly, but very romantic, nonetheless--is Truly, Madly, Deeply, starring Juliet Stevenson and the incomparable Alan Rickman. It's a love story, it's a ghost story, it's a romantic comedy. It's got humor and tears and rodent infestations and ghosts and serenades...and did I mention Alan Rickman?"
~ PG Forte www.PGForte.com

................................

DANI - "An oldie-but-goodie that didn't get the attention I thought it deserved at the time: French Kiss with Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline. A romantic comedy that never fails to make me smile. And yes, I sing "La Vie En Rose" for a week afterwards!"

~ Dani Harper www.daniharper.com

................................

NICOLE - "My favourite romantic movie is The Princess Bride. I've rewatched it many times. It has so many great scenes and quotable lines. 'As you wish,' will always melt my heart."
~ Nicole Luiken www.nicoleluiken.com
................................

MAUREEN - "This may seem a little odd - but not so much if you consider that I love paranormal and fantasy - but one of my favorite romantic movies is Bram Stoker's 1992 Dracula.

"It's sort of a beauty and the beast concept and shows how love can expand time.  Plus each time I watch it I'm not sure if I'm rooting for Keanu or Dracula to gain the love of the heroine."
~ Maureen L. Bonatch  www.maureenbonatch.com

................................

VERONICA - “Ever After with Drew Barrymore and Dougray Scot (1998). I love Cinderella stories and this is my favorite version. I enjoy the way it begins, with an elderly Royal schooling the Brothers Grimm on the correct details of their fairy tale. I enjoy the glass slippers, made by Ferragamo. I love the idea of Leonardo Da Vinci as the ‘fairy godperson’. But most of all I love the fearless Drew Barrymore character, always determined to do the right thing, no matter what the cost to herself. The prince was appropriately handsome and dashing but she’s the heart of the story.

"This is a movie where I always want more – more of the stepsister Jacqueline who was actually pretty decent and her romance with the captain of the guards. More about Leonardo Da Vinci. More of the practical Queen. More scenes between Danielle and Prince Henry…well, you get the idea. Just give me ALL the outtakes and I’ll be quiet and content. I’ve written two Cinderella stories myself, one set in my fantasy world and one set in ancient Egypt and I won’t be surprised if I revisit the trope again!"

HEARTFAST
Book 1 of the HeartFast Series
by Linda Mooney

They are the Guardians, sixteen special men and women with incredible powers who have sworn their lives to the protection of their galaxy, while upholding the laws of their world.

It was a world that, eons ago, had suffered a devastating plague that had rendered more than half its population unable to reproduce. As a result, in order to assure the survival of their species, the HandFast law was enacted. Every month, twenty couples were drawn by lottery. Couples whose sole purpose would then be procreation, the continuation of the species. For the length of one year, two complete strangers would follow the edicts of the HandFast, until the woman conceived.  Once that was accomplished, the couple was no longer bound to each other, and they could go their separate ways while the child was given to a couple unable to bear children.

It was a cold and impersonal law, but it worked.

However, the Guardians were exempt from having their names drawn in the lottery.  The very nature of their jobs, risking their lives day in and day out to protect their galaxy, precluded any thought of bearing children.

Which was why, when StarLight and Master Hunter heard their names called out to be HandFasted, their neat, orderly lives were turned upside-down. Gone was the comfortable companionship they'd known. Gone was the brother-sister working relationship and the friendship.

Now they would be forced into an intimacy neither had wanted,  nor expected.

Neither would they be prepared for the overwhelming passion they would find in each other's bodies, as well as in their hearts.

And things would only get more complicated and dangerous. Because their names had been deliberately placed on the lottery, and the drawing had not been a fluke.  Instead, it was the first step in destroying their world and every Guardian living.

New Releases:

Veronica Scott released JADRIAN: A Badari Warriors Scifi Romance (Sectors New Allies Series Book 3).

The plot: Taura Dancer has been pushed to her limits by alien torturers known as the Khagrish and is ready to die when suddenly the lab where she’s held as a prisoner is taken down by an armed force of soldiers.

The man who rescues her from a burning cell block is Jadrian of the Badari, a genetically engineered alien warrior with as many reasons to hate the Khagrish as Taura has. This set of shared past experiences and the circumstances of her rescue create an unusual bond between them.

Safe in the hidden base where Jadrian and his pack take her, Taura struggles to regain her lost memories and overcome constant flashbacks during which she lashes out at all who come near. Only Jadrian can recall her from the abyss of her visions and hallucinations.

As the war against the Khagrish continues, it becomes increasingly critical to find out who she really is and how she can help in the fight. Until she can control her terrors and trust her own impulses, Taura’s too afraid to pursue the promise of happiness a life with Jadrian as her mate might offer.

When he’s captured by the dreaded enemy, will she step forward to help save him, or will she remain a prisoner of her past?

This is the third book in a new scifi romance series and each novel has a satisfying Happy for Now ending for the hero and heroine, not a cliffhanger. Some overarching issues do remain unresolved in each book since this is an ongoing series but romance always wins the day in my novels!

It's time for the earth to be cleansed.

Released after eons of being imprisoned and tortured, Aeron and his three brothers are ordered by the remaining old gods to bring the Apocalypse upon the world. Humanity has failed them too many times, and the Reckoning is overdue.

As the deity of the air and sky, it's Aeron's duty to bring about massive storms to wipe out civilization. Tornadoes, hurricanes, lightning - all are at his bidding, and Aeron is more than willing to do whatever he is requested to do. He will mete out the worst he can conjure, as long as it means he'll no longer be bound within the hot, dark confines deep within the bowels of the Earth.

Ceris Shahan is terrified of flying. But when the president of the company demands she be at the summit conference clear across the continent the next day, she has no choice but to take the next plane out. If her phobia wasn't debilitating enough, they run into turbulence that doesn't end. Tossed about, bruised and injured amid the ugly black clouds that continue to engulf them, she and the other passengers soon realize they will not survive.

When Ceris spots a figure outside the window, a man who appears to be standing amid the thunderheads and is surrounded by an aura of light, she starts to doubt her own sanity. Yet, when the man turns to find her staring at him, the look of stunned disbelief on his face is undeniable.

She shouldn't be able to see him, but she can. Realizing what this could mean, Aeron decides to risk everything, even his freedom, to rescue and protect the woman from the annihilation of all mankind.

Warning! Contains scenes of mass destruction, two apples, the plane ride from hell, stainless steel, extreme arrogance, an odd utility tool, and two people hoping for a future, any kind of future, as long as they can share it together.

Grant Barton, a Security Officer on the Nebula Zephyr, is less than thrilled with his current assignment to guard an Interstellar singing sensation while she’s on board the ship. It doesn’t help that he and his military war bird Valkyr are dealing with their recent separation from the Sectors Special Forces and uncertainty over their future, with their own planet in ruins.

Karissa Dawnstar is on top of the charts and seemingly has it all – talent, fame, fortune and devoted fans, but behind her brave smile and upbeat lyrics she hides an aching heart. When a publicity stunt goes wrong, Karissa finds herself in the arms of the security officer assigned to protect her – and discovers a mutual attraction she can’t ignore.

Trouble continues to plague the pair, driving a wedge between them and leaving Grant certain that Karissa is in more danger than she realizes, from overzealous fans and her own management. Grant is determined to protect Karissa whether she wants his help or not. Can he discover the truth behind what’s going on before he loses Karissa or is there someone else plotting to keep them apart – permanently?

Veronica Scott released MATEER: A Badari Warriors SciFi Romance Novel (Sectors New Allies Series Book 2).

The blurb:

Megan Garrison, a doctor at the Sectors Amarcae 7 colony, goes to sleep one night as usual only to wake up in her nightgown, strapped to a table in an alien lab, destined to be the subject of terrifying experiments. Granted a brief reprieve, Megan and the other kidnapped humans are released in the middle of a forestlike enclosure on this unknown world and told to survive as best they can for now.

Her only hope is Mateer, the genetically engineered alien warrior imprisoned with the humans. He knows more than he’s sharing about this planet, their captors and the fate of other humans, including perhaps her own sisters. Turns out everyone from her colony has been kidnapped by the Khagrish, a ruthless race of alien scientists. Working for enemies of the human-led Sectors, the Khagrish have created the Badari to be super soldiers.

Mateer, a tough Badari enforcer, now a rebel, is captured while infiltrating the lab to help his pack bring it down. He’s also been ordered by his leaders to search for Megan and save her life at all costs. Tortured by the enemy, he’s offered one chance at survival – convince Megan to become his mate and assist the Khagrish with further experiments.

As the situation at the lab grows worse, Megan struggles against her deep attraction to Mateer, while she does her best to shield the other humans from the terrible Khagrish experiments. For his part, Mateer knows she really is his fated mate and despairs of being able to keep her safe, as the rebel attack is delayed and she fights the truth of their bond.

Will they be able to work together to defeat Khagrish plans and preserve human lives until the promised rescue happens? And what of their future together – will Megan accept Mateer as her true mate, or walk away if she’s freed?
