A Weight On My Shoulders, and Back, and Thighs...

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to moderate one's caffeine intake and snackage levels while working to finish an 80,000 word contemporary romance in order to start another one and then a third to finish by September? I'm wondering if this diet I'm on is a smart thing.

Yes, that's my current dilemma. I am not happy with my general state of health--read weight--and I'm trying to take it off. I am not a yo-yo dieter. I have only once tried to lose weight, and it worked...for a lot of money. Then I plateaued, got frustrated, and ate my way back to my starting weight PLUS another ten pounds. That was six years ago.

At this point in my life, I'm tired of wishing I looked like the hot chick wearing the short skirt and heels while I schlepp around in baggy jeans, sweatshirts and Crocs. And so, to that end, on the advice of a woman who's doing the same program and seen phenomenal success, I'm drinking the Kool-Aid...so to speak. I eat five prepackages meals, one good protein with veggies, and drink a boatload of water daily. All my vitamins and minerals taken care of. No starving myself, but also, no more deluges of creamer or agave in my coffee. Just fat free half n' half and stevia (blech. Yes, I can tell this is NOT sugar.)

But after only a few days, it's working. And I'm going to continue on this food plan for the month I'm set, then transition and finally get off it and eat right after losing a few pant sizes and that pesky fear I'll develop diabetes-which runs in my family. So far, so good. I've lost three pounds and I'm not tired. Drinking all the water helps.

Why am I telling you all this? Because I wanted to share. And I know there are a lot of people like me with good intentions to eat right and exercise the weight off. And nothing. I'm not gobbing down Doritos or chugging at Coke all day. And still, it's painful to lose even a pound.

So I'm working my tush off to lose this weight before the RT Conference in May. I'm hoping I'll see some of you there, a slimmer, more healthy, me.  Stay tuned for further updates.

:) Marie

  2. LOL, I think there might be a few of us trying to wish away a couple (dozen, for me) extra pounds by the time RT rolls around!

I lost over a hundred pounds a few years ago, by giving up flour and sugar...and I fell off the wagon, and have been chasing it ever since...only regained about half of the weight (so far)...

My point is...Why is it so hard to NOT do something? Sheesh!

Hang in there. Maybe I'll see you at the snack bar at RT...

  3. My mom made a comment once that eating is like any other addiction, only harder to "kick" because you can't stop it completely.

    Word.

    Good luck with your goals!

  4. Good luck! I lost my extra weight a few years ago, and I can't tell you how happy I am with the results. Be strong. Stick to it! It's sooooo worth it to feel good about yourself. Like Lorenda said, food is an addiction. I do the no sugar no flour (and no chemicals) thing, and while I thought I was going to eat my own hands for the first three weeks, it's amazing how good I feel now that I'm no longer addicted. Staying this weight has been shockingly easy because I don't have the weird cravings anymore. :) Keep crap you don't want to eat out of your house! (I still have to do that...it's gotten harder since children moved into the house, but we're staying mostly strong!) It helps me to read up on articles about how companies use chemistry to make us crave their crap so I can feel offended by their immoral chicanery and stubbornly refuse to give in to their tricks.

I look forward to seeing you at RT and cheering on your success! You go girl!

  5. Nicole, Teri and Lorenda, thanks. Yeah, snacking at the keyboard was a habit I got into then had a hard time getting out of. My biggest problem is not exercising enough, but I bought a tread climber and that thing is awesome, fun, and too convenient not to use. I think it's harder to give up the food, as Lorenda said, because if you're an addict, you can't escape it! You literally have to eat. Just eating the better stuff,or the bad stuff in low moderation. So I'm adjusting.
And Jax, good for you! That feeling when you lose is so awesome. I did that five/six years ago and remember how terrific I felt before I gained it back. sigh.
But I'd rather prevent major health issues than have to deal with them later, so I'm on point with this.
And good news. It's been a few days on this diet and I've already lost a few pounds. Enough motivation to keep me moving forward. Looking forward to seeing you at RT as well!

  7. Good luck lovely. Nice to hear it's working already!!
I can cut down on the eating or exercise, I can't seem to get into both at the same time - unless I'm in the right state of mind and then I'm golden!!!

I'm sure by the time of the Conference in May you'll be happy with the results.... :D
