1. Tell us a little about yourself: I’m
a short blind lady with Chia-pet hair and sailor’s mouth. Oh, I write as well.
Born and bred in the mountains of West Virginia, I am a reluctant transplant to
the Midwest (it is flat here *twitch*). Three geckoes 0 fake- grace my desk for
luck. I have a teen-aged daughter and
twin 8 yr old boys. Yes, pass the alcohol.
2. What prompted you to start writing? I
was 11 and needed to get the voices out of my head. I wrote and more voices came
to replace those and the cycle still continues today.
3. What’s your writing process? Where do you write? Feast and famine. I work like a demon, pouring out
tens of thousands of words a week then do nothing for a week. I used to write
at my kitchen table or in between answering 911 calls. Now I write full time and
work in my office exclusively.
4. Which three books would you take to a desert island and
why? Why three? My nook is the size of
one book and holds thousands.
5. Which five people (real, fictional, historical) would you
invite to dinner and why? Jesus, Lucille
Ball, Caligula, Milton Hershey and Walt Disney
6. What’s your guilty pleasure? I
bake things I never eat, but my family loves them.
7. How do you celebrate when you finish a novel? I don’t really. Maybe just start the next
one. I’m boring.
8. What has surprised you about being a published author? How little control I have once the original
manuscript leaves my hands.
9. Do you do a lot of research for your books? Tons and tons. I love research and will research
almost anything for a single line. I once changed an entire scene because I
couldn’t discover a fact about dandelions. Not sure? Then it doesn’t go into my
books, period.
10. Have you ever used an incident from real life in one of
your books? I refuse to answer on the grounds
that I may incriminate myself
