I have to admit, we aren't at all romantic at my household so a good dinner out is about the only thing we do for Valentine's Day. It's sad to say, but we are so practical that sometimes we don't even go on the day itself, but earlier so that we can avoid the crowds.

Hate to be a downer, but it's not fun for me and hasn't been most of my life because I'm usually single. I think there was only once when I was dating someone that fell on this day and he covered the floor of our bedroom in pillows and candles and that was really romantic... info[at]angelaquarles[.]com
ReplyDeleteValentine's Day is all about romance. I look forward to an evening surrounded by the glow of candles, the lovely sound of guitar music on the stereo, and a fabulous dinner.
ReplyDeleteTell me I'm not dreaming!

I love Valentine's Day, our family has a cluster of birthdays surrounding it, so we always celebrate.
ReplyDeleteXXOO Kat
Even when I've been single, I've always enjoyed the Japanese practice of making handmade chocolates and giving them to my guy friends as "tomo choco" or friend chocolates. Most of my otaku friends really appreciated them. :)
ReplyDelete@pjschnyder
I like Valentine's Day because mom and I and a couple of my closest cousins celebrate by going out to dinner and just spending time with each other.
ReplyDeletejmesparza821(at)gmail(dot)com
Even if I don't have a significant other, I love picking out Valentine's for the loved ones in my life. Making them is even more fun!
ReplyDeletejulieguan AT gmail DOT com
I like spending time with my hubby. We don't do much any more for it, but he tends to send me flowers and that's about the only time in a year he'll do that.
ReplyDeleteErm, forgot the email address. torymichaels@live.com. Sorry 'bout that!
DeleteI'm loving hearing all the fun things people do! I especially love that so many of you use the holiday to express love for family and friends - that's so heartwarming!
ReplyDeleteI love Valentines day because you get to show people how much you care for them and love them. I love helping my kids do their valentines day cards. I love helping the kids pick out flowers for Grandma.
ReplyDeleteWould love to win the gift card, could buy lots of books or ebooks. Thanks for the chance to win
christinebails@yahoo.com
Valentine's day is special to me because I accepted my husband's proposal on that day quite a few years ago ... and the love is just as great now as back then. Wishing you a Happy Valentine's day.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...we don't do the normal 'flower and candy' thing for Valentine's Day. I like just being able to spend time with the ones I love. Making a special dinner or dessert.
ReplyDeletecfamily2000 AT gmail DOT com
I love waking up to my valentine's day breakfast my husband makes me.
ReplyDeletehewella1 at gmail dot com
I haven't had a significant other in a long time, but my mom gets me a funny card and candy and I buy Valentine gifts for my four young nieces. They love it!
ReplyDeletemizztuts AT bellsouth dOT net
Time spent relaxing is amazing. Either together or reading a good book.
ReplyDeleteThis year I'll be traveling on the 14th.
lcahoon7@gmail.com
For 44 years I've had the same Valentine, and we've celebrated in many different ways. Sure glad we still have some options left.
ReplyDeleteHope you all have a wonderful Valentine's day.
afbriggs@hotmail.com
I enjoy Valentines, we eat dinner out, relax at home and it's nice watching how others celebrate the holiday in the news.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
maria63303 at gmail dot com
I love Valentine's Day because it's unabashedly romantic. It celebrates love, which is the best kind of magic I know. :-) susan@susansey.com
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy giving valentines to people who don't expect it...friends and co-workers etc! Such fun!
ReplyDeleteblacksnake@mchsi.com
I'm not eligible for the drawing, but I's fun to see all the comments. I've never been real sentimental when it comes to Valentine's Day (or other holidays for that matter). That's probably strange considering I write romance. Anyway, I do love CHOCOLATE in all of its many forms. Valentine's day seems to be big on the chocolate.
ReplyDeleteI love when it's Valentines day because the hubs does..wait for it...dishes and helps me out all day lol. We usually spend the night watching movies together and cuddling ♥
ReplyDeleteThanks for giveaway and Happy Valentines Day!
derna4u@yahoo.com
Valentine's Day isn't as big over here as in some other countries, but it's getting bigger every year and I love all the small silly gifts that you can buy and all the fun cards.
ReplyDeleteI already got a Valentine's card send to me btw! :-D
sullivanmcpig(at)gmail(dot)com
I enjoy the romance of Valentine's Day. And the suspense of waiting to see if flowers will appear at my door, or if my hubby will bring home candy or jewelry. Probably jewelry - he knows me well.
ReplyDeleteedwina(dot)cowgill(at)yahoo(dot)com
Sadly my book romances are way better than the real life Valentines days ever were. It's not a day I've really took that much interest in. Hopefully this year a movie and dinner sounds great. Thank you for the chance to win!!! @SacredmOOn1 sacredmoon1(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteIt is more of a fun day for my boy's than my hubby and I. I put together gift bags for my son's and their girlfriends that include a cinnamon candle, a bag of Starbucks's coffee, See 's marshmallow hearts and a gift certificate for their favorite restaurant. Their smiles and hugs totally make my day.
ReplyDeletecaity_mack at yahoo dot com
I hopped over from twitter today to join in the fun and signed up to follow. I have to say Valentines day is definitely all about the chocolate LOL my favorite romance is in a good book and the chocolate makes it all the sweeter :) Thank you for the fun, although I am seriously thinking of asking to join Cathy M's family she looks to me like a goddess of Valentine treats :)
ReplyDelete@ZDz59001
I used to love making the card box in elementary school! Remember that?
ReplyDeleteviando1@yahoo.com
I've always loved getting Valentines cards, they're so fun. And there's nothing like a holiday that celebrates sweet things, especially chocolate.
ReplyDeleteBarbed1951 at aol dot com
Getting my son ready for his Valentine's Day party at school and giving him something special is my favorite thing.
ReplyDeletetwitter - blakesmomma
I like Valentine's Day because it is a day when people are reminded to show others that you love them. Even though we should do this everyday, daily life sometimes gets in the way and causes us to forget how important it is to let everyone know that we care about them. I do like the decorations and the chocolate too though, lol.

One of the things I like about Valentine's Day is the giving. I like giving the silly cards and watching the person smile. So many people do not get anything or acknowledgement I like to fill the void.
ReplyDeleteI love the romance of Valentine's Day. Even my otherwise romance-challenged hubby get's inspired and will do something romantic.
ReplyDeleteWith no significant other, for me Valentines is mostly about the chocolate.
ReplyDeletedrainbamaged.gyzmo at gmail.com
@drainbamagedgyz
I love it all! The sweet and sexy cards, the special chocolates and conversation hearts, the red and pink hearts, the extra shine in my honey's eyes, the burnin' love, the romance that hangs in the air like erotic perfume.... Can I get a "yummmmm!" As others have said, it's a good idea to share the love year 'round, but to have a day devoted to all things LOVE is pure heaven-sent. S
ReplyDeletesophiaryan@live.com
Is it terrible to admit that Valentine's Day doesn't do it for me? All the pink, all the cuteness... My college fencing team did a St. Valentine's Day Massacre that better fit my idea of what love should be.
ReplyDeleteBesides, I never need an excuse to eat chocolate ;)
I love the thought behind focusing on your loved ones for Valentine's Day yet I sometimes feel like all of our holidays have gotten too commercial. Still, a reminder to our significant other to fully focus on the relationship can never be a bad thing.
ReplyDelete@StormieKent
I love watching the younger kids exchanging those single or double word cards: Love me, Be mine, etc. And, or course, chocolate truffles.
ReplyDeleteOops,forgot . . . @gmail.com
DeleteHonestly, I'm in the Valentine's-Day-doesn't-do-it-for-me camp (although the chocolate is good). VD is actually my mother's birthday, though, so it's always a special day around our house :)
ReplyDelete@anne_marsh
Thanks for all the comments. They are wonderful. With all our kids gone, it's a sweet dessert and time together.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Valentine's Day and good luck to everyone.
Growing up I used to love waking up on Valentine's Day to some sort of special treat - chocolate, stuffed animals - from my parents. As I got older, my dad used to leave a rose on my car while I was at school or work. Now, as an adult (and married over 20 years), I look forward to just having a quiet dinner with my husband and kids and celebrating as a family...which I guess that's what it's always been about for me.

Valentine's Day was my anniversary with my ex, so it's never been a big deal for me and my husband. We exchange cards and he usually buys me a flower (singular), but we save the big romantic stuff for our wedding anniversary.
ReplyDelete(I have trouble with Blogger, so am posting this as anonymous, but you can tweet me as nancyholland5.)
I do love the candy! Especially the Sweethearts. :)

Getting to spend that day with my husband although it rarely happens. Won't this year either. He's a truck driver and won't be home until the weekend so i guess we'll celebrate late. lol

Valentine's Day - I love the flowers. Can do without the candy :-)
ReplyDeletenancyevertz@yahoo.com
I love the magic of Valentine's Day. I lost my sweetheart nearly 7 years ago to cancer, so now I take my mom (also a widow) and my daughter (a single mom) out for a romantic threesome! There's magic in love--wherever you find it! @CJSnyderWriter

ReplyDeleteThe single part of me says the best part of Valentine's day is the half price Cinnamon Heart on Feb 15th. The romance reader/writer says is the testaments of love and devotion to the one you love. I do enjoy listening to the stories I hear of what people are doing to express their deeper emotions given the holiday. Last year while my best friends husband was deployed I took her out for Valentine's day to a haunted history tour of a local place and a seance :) Memorable LOL Valentine's day should be about showing love to everyone who love.
ReplyDeleteI forgot my contact details the first time... sorry!

Valentine's Day for me is all about being surrounded by the people I love. I'd like to think I show love all year round but a reason to celebrate love is always wonderful. Great company and just as great food sounds about right.
ReplyDeleteCambonified[at]yahoo[dot]com
I would have to say for me, it's being around the people you love.. As far as the candy aspect of it - I'm allergic to Chocolate so that kinds ruins that for me! hahaha.
ReplyDeleteAwesome giveaway :)

I love the idea of Valentines Day. The romance, the love and spending time with someone dear to you....I don't like the tradition of giving flowers though!!! Would rather have bling or a nice bubble bath with a new book!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway opportunity!!!
iluvmik16@gmail.com
Great contest and who doesn't love a holiday that involves candy
ReplyDeletejslindzy @ hotmail.com
Because I'm a horrid, horrid person, being single, I enjoy the terror my friends with significant others go through each year, trying to come up with something to do on or for Valentine's Day.
ReplyDeleteredfiona99 @ gmail.com
Well my single side says that the best are the chocolate sales on Feb 15th. My romantic side, that hopes to get flowers and a secret admirer, says it's a special time for love and a hopeful begining.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine’s Day!!!

Mostly I think it's a good time to share some love. I go out with my girlfriends when I'm sigle and we do a girls only night. This year we go to a thermal bath in the evening.
ReplyDeleteAnzumerlinATmailDOTru
Chocolates. The good ones. And having a very good excuse to eat them without the guilt of the calories. No one can give you a hard time about eating chocolates on Valentine's day.
ReplyDeleteMy husband's birthday is on Valentine's day, and I have always loved birthdays... but I've always been sort of ambivalent about Valentine's day, so we have spent the past 13 years of Valentine's day celebrating our love in a slightly different way.
ReplyDeleteOver the past 9 years, I have given my colleagues (and local friends and family) handmade Valentines, although I sort of see this as sort of a Zen exercise than anything. It's an opportunity for me to give without expecting anything in return.
Flowers and chocolate but also the surprise, you don't know what you'll get and from whom ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine’s Day
